Why does vim complain about weak crypto when using blowfish2?

The cryptmethod is stored in the file itself, and isn't automatically updated. You can see this with less: $ less a VimCrypt~02!!<C7>\<E1>wZzm ^E^X^Z<92>5<C9>I6<9C>S ...

Neovim - Encrypt Files like Vim with :X

In neovim, encryption is intentionally removed. This is the justification: https://github.com/neovim/neovim/commit/85338fe1d5a56f82546e16c305c2048c081771e0, https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/694,...

Support of the -x option

On one system, vim is a symbolic link to vim.basic, on the other it is a symbolic link to vim.tiny. vim.basic supports the -x option. vim.tiny doesn't. Problem solved.

Open with Neovim files that were encrypted with Vim

All support for cryptmethod was removed in 85338fe. See the linked pull requests for (lengthy) discussions about it. There is no way to open these files with Neovim. You will need to use Vim.
