Been trying for a couple days with no luck to get an lsp with autocompletion working in my Vim setup. My .vimrc file looks like this:

let g:asyncomplete_log_file="/home/user/z_log"
let g:asyncomplete_auto_popup=1
let g:asyncomplete_auto_completeopt = 0
set completeopt=menuone,noinsert,noselect,preview

" Set up Python LSP
if executable('pyls')
    au User lsp_setup call lsp#register_server({
        \ 'name': 'pyls',
        \ 'cmd': {server_info->['pyls']},
        \ 'whitelist': ['python'],
        \ 'completor': function('asyncomplete#sources#buffer#completor'),
        \ })
endif

function! s:on_lsp_buffer_enabled() abort
    setlocal omnifunc=lsp#complete
    setlocal signcolumn=yes
    if exists('+tagfunc') | setlocal tagfunc=lsp#tagfunc | endif
    nmap <buffer> gd <plug>(lsp-definition)
    nmap <buffer> gs <plug>(lsp-document-symbol-search)
    nmap <buffer> gS <plug>(lsp-workspace-symbol-search)
    nmap <buffer> gr <plug>(lsp-references)
    nmap <buffer> gi <plug>(lsp-implementation)
    nmap <buffer> gt <plug>(lsp-type-definition)
    nmap <buffer> <leader>rn <plug>(lsp-rename)
    nmap <buffer> [g <plug>(lsp-previous-diagnostic)
    nmap <buffer> ]g <plug>(lsp-next-diagnostic)
    nmap <buffer> <F2> <plug>(lsp-hover)
    nnoremap <buffer> <expr><c-f> lsp#scroll(+4)
    nnoremap <buffer> <expr><c-d> lsp#scroll(-4)

    let g:lsp_format_sync_timeout = 1000
    autocmd! BufWritePre *.rs,*.go call execute('LspDocumentFormatSync')

    " refer to doc to add more commands
endfunction

augroup lsp_install
    au!
    " call s:on_lsp_buffer_enabled only for languages that has the server registered.
    autocmd User lsp_buffer_enabled call s:on_lsp_buffer_enabled()
augroup END

call plug#begin()
Plug 'prabirshrestha/vim-lsp'
Plug 'prabirshrestha/asyncomplete.vim'
Plug 'prabirshrestha/asyncomplete-lsp.vim'
Plug 'prabirshrestha/asyncomplete-buffer.vim'
call plug#end()

" Tab completion for autocomplete
imap <expr> <c-space>   <plug> (asyncomplete_force_refresh)
inoremap <expr> <Tab>   pumvisible() ? "\<C-n>" : "\<Tab>"
inoremap <expr> <S-Tab> pumvisible() ? "\<C-p>" : "\<S-Tab>"
inoremap <expr> <cr>    pumvisible() ? asyncomplete#close_popup() : "\<cr>"

When I try to hit Tab I just get a normal tab inserted and when I hit c-space I get the error message "No inserted text yet". I'm stumped because I haven't seen anywhere where I would need to do additional configuration. I also installed python lsp via pip.

The terminal I'm using is bash for what it's worth too.

  • I doubt C-space is passed to the terminal correctly (try cat, C-v, C-space, and look at what you get). Your tab mapping doesn't trigger completion, so you might need to try C-x C-o (since you set the omnifunc)
